Last month, the state was up to its usual shenanigans with regard to school funding. In particular, the legislature was considering caving to Big Apartment and either classifying apartments as "residential" properties (they're currently "non-residential" for property tax purposes) or creating a new kind of classification specifically for them and setting a special tax rate for them.
As you can imagine if you read my explanation of how New Castle County Council screwed the residential tax payer in 2025, making such a change would necessarily shift the tax burden that the apartments will save onto the residential tax payer (that's you).
Anyway, I created a tool to let you play around what next year's property taxes in New Castle County will look like if you tweak the numbers a bit.
