September 9, 2025
The September general meeting was held on September 9, 2025. Patton didn't show again today, and it was relatively conflict-free. All motions carried unanimously, 6-0.
As part of the Effective School Boards framework, the board has to periodically evaluate itself. Reader, it will come as no surprise to you that we scored a solid zero across all categories. This is mainly because we can't get off the schneid until we establish actual goals and guardrails for our superintendent. I wanted to just pick something, anything, so we could get moving, but it doesn't look like the rest of the board is up for that (yet). I'm hoping to do some number crunching over the next few weeks and propose something that we can start with.

This was erroneously split into three separate agenda times during agenda preparation, but it was all basically covered under one item during the meeting.
Troncoso, who is so invested in Wilmington that she can't be bothered to do her job on the Wilmington Learning Collaborative, wants to have more meetings in Wilmington. Moriak noted that Wilmington makes up about 25% of the student population but already gets 33% of the meetings. Troncoso claimed to want more meetings in Wilmington to have more engagement, but I will note that there were no more than 4 people at the meeting who weren't staff (after the students who got recognized for jazz band left).

Troncoso, who is so invested in district finance that she can't be bothered to attend a Citizen Budget Oversight Committee meeting, wanted a forensic audit of our finances and a performance assessment of the district. I don't know why. She talked about the public needing confidence in the district, but that would probably be better accomplished by knowing what she's talking about and not stoking fear. She talked about her surprise at a 2026 referendum, but that would probably be better understood if she attended literally any CBOC meeting, where we've been talking about the need for a referendum for the past year or two.
